My advice to future -protect oneself is keep the 3 downloads safe somewhere. XSane sees the scanner, but behaves too eratically to use so one is stuck with iscan, but I criticise it not. Fire it up from the graphics menu - and you can indeed scan from the V500! The program is utterly different from its Win/Mac equivalent. Iscan is indeed the dedicated scanning application. Based on these cases, it is high time that you should try hard to get your Epson scanner to scan to your computer from not responding.
